  • Thankful Thursday

    Yay!  I finally managed to take a second to blog.  I have been so very busy with so very many things.

    Five random items I am thankful for today:

    1.  School has not killed me, yet.

    2.  My zippy fast car which enabled me to escape two accidents recently!  Seriously, last night I had to drive between an SUV and a pick up truck, and I mean, between the two lanes, because the truck decided to change lanes, without a signal, into the exact same spot that I was driving.  Fortunately I was able to step on the gas and zoom out of there before he crushed my little compact car!  What a T-bag!

    3.  My funny TWO YEAR OLD, who decided to protest her nap by kicking me in the eye!  Ow!

    4.  Purdue, because we all need something to laugh at.

    5.  Dental floss.

  • Thankful Thursday and Future Marine X?

    Things I am thankful for:

    1.  chocolate animal crackers... mmm.  Like oreos without the artificial greasy grossness.

    2.  My big big baby N, she's 23 months old today!  I picked six nice tomatoes yesterday and she decided it would be too fun to smoosh them under her feet.

    3.  My persistent husband.

    4.  Memories like the ones of my Daa taking us snorkeling on the weekends.  For some reason I was thinking about that last night while falling asleep.

    5.  This funny incident:

    The other day, after swimming, X and G were in the locker room changing.  X (who is six) asks, "Uncle G, how come you have hair on your penis?  I don't have hair on my penis." 
    G, who is turning bright red in the locker room full of men, is frantically trying to think of what the "right" response is, when X exclaims,

    "Wow Uncle G!  You have a HUGE penis!!  My penis is so small, why isn't my penis huge like yours?"

    I could not stop laughing for about five minutes after G told me this story. 

    I deleted my MySpace account today, which I'm actually kind of happy about.  I don't really use it all that much, mostly to keep up with a few people who are not on Xanga but whatever.  I have a Facebook, which, although it confuses me, seems to have less stupid stuff on it than MySpace, or at least is easier to avoid.

    Another X story:

    One day we were eating dinner and G asks X what he wants to be when he grows up.  First he says he wants to be a "cooker" so we talk about the differences between a chef and a cook and X figures out he means a chef because they have restaurants and restaurants have kids menus and crayons.

    Continuing the conversation, G asks X what else he wants to be.  X replies that he wants to be a superhero.  G tells him superheroes are not real, they are make believe, then adds, "The only real superheros are Marines."

    X thinks then replies, "Then I want to be a Marine."

    G tells him that's a good idea.  X is quiet, which means he's thinking some more.  Then he asks,

    "Do Marines have swords?"

    I smile and say, "Well, actually they do."

    X excitedly bounces in his chair and exclaims, "Cool!  Then I DO want to be a Marine!!"

    haha.  We told him if he did good in school maybe we would take him to the Marine recruiting office to talk to some real Marines.  I asked him if he remembered meeting some Marines when he was younger but as I expected, since he wasn't even three at the time, he said no.  I reminded him of the time we went to Chattanooga to welcome back Mike Battery from Iraq but he looked at me like I was nuts.  My longtime readers have seen the pictures so I won't bother reposting but I'll have to show X again one of these days.

    Instead here are a couple pictures from those days of snorkeling on the north shore... I apologize for the poor quality.  I think these were actually taken with a 110.  Yes, I lived before digital photography.  I don't even know how old I am here... I would guess 8 or 9.

  • Thankful Thursday

    Today's random thankful events:

    1.  Sunny days (for my tomatoes).

    2.  Curry Spaghetti.  Mmmm.

    3.  My sweet loving baby who tries to share her string cheese with the cat.

    4.  My nephew who, after I explain to him how watching TV makes his brain turn to mush, drew himself a TV complete with a show and remote control.

    5.  My big brother, Lil P, who is 33 years old today!  I was thinking about the time he tried to suck my eyeballs out.  hah!

  • Our new addition!

    Yay!  Today a nice man came and bought our old fridge and a few hours later, two guys came and brought The Beast!!



    I love it.  It is huge 25 cu and so lovely!

    My garden..



    G built me this garden box on the side of our house. 



    I have lots of sunflowers... home to many bees.



    As well as five tomato plants that my FiL brought down from his garden in PA.




    This may look like a giant pile of weeds because it is!  Actually it's the dirt that G removed from the side of the house to install my garden box.  It happened to be full of all my kitchen scraps and no less than a dozen tomato plants have come up!  Yes, there will be tomatoes aplenty soon!  Funny thing is, I'm the only one in the house who eats tomatoes!  Good thing I love them.




    I have several jalapeno plants, as well as a habanero or two.  And one lonely butternut squash vine.  I planted zucchini (for my famous zucchini relish) but they didn't take.  My sister said she will give me some of hers though, so hopefully I can restock my relish pantry after all.



    Had to take the door off to get The Beast in the house.

  • Sun tea=good

    Besides the making of the delicious sun tea, I am trying to clean the kitchen in preparation for... our new refrigerator!  Yay!  We went down to the store today to check them out and found one, just like the one we wanted, only bigger, but on clearance because it's the floor model!  We're going back tomorrow to get it, assuming no one picks it up today...

    We still have our old fridge so I'm trying to sell it for pretty cheap so someone can come haul it out of here.  I know the store has free haul away but I would rather sell it for a few bucks or even give it to someone who is in need than to have the store turn around and make money off of it.

    So long old box.


    Since the new one is so much taller, we will have to take out our over the fridge cabinet but I never really cared for that one anyway since it is hard to access being above the refer and all.  I actually keep our meds and vitamins up there since it's just about the most inaccessible place in the house!  I'll probably  just get a lock box for the drugs or put them in the armory or something.

    Our kitchen faucet has also developed micro cracks in it, so looks like it's on its way out as well!  Fortunately we have a spare (sort of) sink down in the basement.  It's actually not a spare since there is a kitchenette down there but it's not currently in use and the kitchen upstairs is so that's where the priority lies. 

    G is still fixing our bathroom sink which got knocked off the wall, which broke the drain pipe off (it really was old and needing replacement anyway).  He's working seven days again, in addition to me kicking his butt in PT everyday so that may stay repaired for a while.  Fortunately (we're very fortunate here) we have three bathrooms so, while inconvenient to have to go to another room to use the sink, it's not the end of the world!

    Been doing some research trying to find a new religion.. ok not a whole new religion.. just a new denomination I suppose, but mostly a new church.  More on that later, I'm sure.

    Also been researching some schools for some possible upcoming changes.. maybe.  Again, more later, I'm sure. 

    Murphy is doing really well at the farm.  He has a girlfriend named Annie and his bald patch is growing back.  He did get shot in the butt last month by my sister's neighbor (with a rifle, not a BB ) who claims he shot up into the air, not at the dog.  I had half a mind to go over and teach him how to aim but it's such a long drive.  In any case, he doesn't seem much bothered by it and no, I did not have the bullet removed.  I figure, the dog has another 4-6 years left on his natural lifespan, but if he keeps getting shot at, he may not have to worry about lead poisoning.

    I better get back to the kitchen.. I only jumped online to send a mean note to Sonic about not having toddler toys for their wacky pack.
